We were asked to take the People Made exhibition that premiered at London’s Design Museum in 2011, to the World Design Capital Helsinki.
Over two decades, Nokia introduced a succession of iconic products that changed the way we live. It brought calling, messaging and photography to the masses; helping people to live in the moment, make memories and share their lives. It showed Nokia Design’s approach to product making; how they conceived and crafted products that literally change the lives of millions. It shared the voices of designers who created the products and the voices of people whose lives those products have touched.
For the World Design Capital in Helsinki, we re-fitted the exhibition to work in a large industrial setting. Having more space, longer duration and more footfall predicted, we expanded the exhibition to include a set of short films, giving voice to the people using the Nokia phones. With Nokia's new and bold approach to colours, we wanted to display the portfolio to celebrate colours in product making. Echoing this new direction, in a large colourful back-drop, with high visual impact, it drew attention to the portfolio.
